Personal empowerment through strength training drives me. I've lived in Alaska since 1988. In 2004 I suffered a catastrophic knee injury (while stretching, of all things). Unable to jog and going to the gym for rehab exercises, I decided to try resistance training. That year at age 31 I touched a barbell for the first time in my life. In 2007 I started competitively powerlifting. In 2011 I directed my first powerlifting competition and in 2014 I directed my first high school powerlifting competition. Overall I've lost count of how many powerlifting meets I've directed. While I’ve had the honor of coaching world champions, my greatest satisfaction comes from teaching normal people with jobs, families, and responsibilities the amazing things their bodies can do.

I come from an athletic background, playing football and wrestling year round was the norm for me growing up.  In 2006 at my first duty station I started Powerlifting to keep my competitive side alive.  in 2011 I started CrossFit to focus more on conditioning.  After my first CrossFit Open in 2012 I was hooked.  In April 2013 I decided to take a Level 1 CrossFit Trainers Course to better educate myself.  I started coaching shortly after, and I enjoy helping athletes meet their goals.  In my downtime I like to put my fitness to use and enjoy the outdoors.

I have had a passion for physical fitness my entire life.
I grew up in Amarillo, TX. where I played high school football and ran track. I joined the United States Marine Corps in 1992.  I found CrossFit in September 2009. I became a CF-L1 (CrossFit Level 1 Coach) in March 2010.  Upon receipt of orders to Naval Air Station Willow Grove, PA in July 2010, I began training at CrossFit Apex while simultaneously affiliating with CrossFit in order to start up the military affiliate CrossFit Blackhawk 66.  I became a Coach at CrossFit Apex in January 2011 where I conducted a 6-month internship under the expert guidance and coaching of Tanya Wagner (2009 CrossFit Games Women's Champion) and her husband Josh Wagner, and Co-owner Keith Bussom. I retired from the United States Marine Corps September 1st, 2012 after 20 years of service.  Since retirement I have dedicated myself to becoming the best CrossFit Coach that I can in order to help my athletes achieve their personal strength and conditioning goals.  If you want to be a part of a great community of athletes with a very positive high energy environment, then CrossFit Anchorage is the place for you.
